DARK LOVE
by Ayanna Lopez

     Dark Love

This angel fell
She lost her light
Trudging through the gates of hell
She gave up the fight
No man or god
Could bring her back
Until she looked into his heart
Black as coal
Hard as ice
Their inner darkness called to each other
A spark churned inside her
Something alien nagged at her
Their eyes met
And the muses wept
The hell cats yowled
Something ancient awoke
Love so dark
It tore at reality
Love so fierce
The earth shook
Both man and beast feared
Because that day
Dark love was born

     Thoughts of the Heart

When you saw him
Your heart flew

Then you met him
And a spark grew

You chose duty over him
Yet the sight of his face
Still plagues you

You turned your back
Even though it kills you

Looking back is not an option
When you close your eyes
You see his smile

In your dreams
His laugh rings through

Some thought it was the latter
Little do they know
It is the former

Life is a hard, cruel road
And the heart is an evil beast

I think it’s better
Sometimes, not to feel

     The Girl

A hooded figure stole her dreams
A cloaked thing made her scream
Chasing after something she could not have
A haunted song
A broken mind
Everything she touched
Was destined to die
Followed by sadness
Haunted by lies
Reminded of a past
That she could not hide
No one will see her cry
People hide
From the monster she has become
Inside her sleeps a shell
The girl she once was
The girl she can never be again
A tortured artist
A wandering soul

     My Emotions

I count the days
I bid my time
When I can be free
From your disgusting lies
Days will turn into months
Months into years
By then I will conquer fear
I’m sick of being tired
I’m sick of smiling eyes
My cheerful pen
Is now blackened
By my angry thought
Corrupted by my thirst for revenge
My bitter words
Knows no end
I long for happy days
Until then it is better this way
This page is my outlet
This pen, my portal to sanity

     Little Times

Sometimes we love
That which we shouldn’t
Sometimes we’re pulled
In a terribly wrong direction
Sometimes we’re blind
Blind to that which would kill us
Unaware of those who’d betray us
Sometimes we hate
Hate so strong it’d sink islands
Sometimes we regret
So, strong it breaks us
Sometimes we’re so high
That we come crashing down
To a new sort of low
But in these little times
Where everything is terribly wrong
Or perfectly right
That we see who we really are
We see who we should trust
And who we shouldn’t
Who we loved
And who we couldn’t
That’s why I love
These little times
