PUTTING YOU THROUGH NOW

by Christopher Barnes

“Putting You Through Now, Caller.” 1

“Thirkell confided she’d bargained, hobbled away,
Fingers crushing that suitcase,
Something taut in her eyes.”

“Guess she’s on the plane,
An age-encrusted face glimmering in a window.”

“Putting You Through Now, Caller.” 2

“When the posse interrogate, I’ll have to riposte.
Rowlie’s eyes were trout-wide.
Been slot-machining, didn’t leak.
We’ll make the ghost town edition.
You fall out to Hicksville.”

“Got a whisper I’m shying off.
With fresh minutiae he could breathe life.”

“Putting You Through Now, Caller.” 3

“Beth has a stark-mad warp –
Might-a-gored him anyway.
Kitten heels and blighting scrutiny.
Airless confidants once.”

“Retrace that freeloading…you at the wheel –
Pearls hustling on Cadillac seats.”

“Putting You  Through Now, Caller.” 4

“You always this gruff?
Muzzling your jaw smooths our racket.
Could’ve pocketed Betterbridge, worth the undertaking.
He was roundly pinpointed.
Whine baby, avanti.”

“There’s no getaway hatch
That doesn’t swing onto a precipice.”

“Putting You Through Now, Caller.” 5

“This wipe out has its Laurel & Hardy ingredient.
You had it jaggy
Radiating yourself in vending machine glam.
An x marks the colour print.
Everything’s thimblerigged, faithworthy.”

“Skewing reminiscences aren’t discretion,
Costa del Sol waits,
A golden bubble.”
