A Heart of A Child

Looking down at the city beneath my feet,
That I watch over day by day.
My presence has been ignored,
By the adults.
Except my presence doesn’t faze the tiny child.
Grazing upon me, in my tower, she stands
In the middle of the crosswalk, as the
A sea of people passes her by,
I look down into her eyes.
Filled with curiosity and wonder,
How I yearn to be down there.
Among them is such a child
Once more, be in
Whimsical bliss too.
The world around me.
Not knowing what was happening
Behind that giant concrete wall,
A new world, unannounced to
The child and I.

A Walk At Night

I gaze upon the starry night sky, and my breath travels across the cityscape.
As the car lights zoom across the dark, gloomy highway,
The sea of people seems to go on for miles, never-ending.
The warm drink that I clasp desperately to warm my cold, numb hands.
Listening to the sounds of the city, the town that never sleeps.
Charlotte is her name.
People were talking about their plans.
“Let’s go to the ice skating rink.”
“That girl seems lonely.”
“Don’t talk to her.”
The aroma of freshly made food fills the air.
Hearing echoing footsteps behind me, getting louder and louder;
My heart is racing.
My pace quickens as I turn to face my follower
Only to be greeted by a void of emptiness
There wasn’t a soul around.
Was my mind playing tricks on me?
Why do I feel like I’m not alone?
On this walk tonight.
