ROOTS AND WINGS

Introduction Every life is shaped by two forces: the roots that ground us and the wings that lift us. Roots remind us of where we come from — our traditions, our families, our faith. Wings remind us of what is possible — the dreams, the courage, and the hope that carry us forward. Together, they form the balance of resilience.
My Roots I grew up in a community where simplicity was strength. The smell of fresh bread, the laughter of children, and the wisdom of elders around the fire were the rhythms of daily life. These traditions were not just habits; they were anchors. They taught me gratitude, humility, and the importance of belonging. My roots held me steady when storms came.
My Wings But roots alone are not enough. Pain, betrayal, and hardship demanded that I rise above what was familiar. Faith became my wings. Scripture reminded me that brokenness can birth beauty, and that even in silence, God whispers hope. Writing became another set of wings — a way to transform memory into meaning, and sorrow into strength. Each word carried me higher, reminding me that resilience is not just survival, but reinvention.
The Balance Roots without wings can keep us stuck. Wings without roots can leave us drifting. But when we honor both, we discover the art of transformation. We carry our heritage while embracing change. We remember where we come from, but we refuse to let pain define where we are going.
A Word for You If you feel torn between holding on and letting go, know this: you were given both roots and wings. Your roots will steady you, and your wings will lift you. Tradition and faith are not opposites — they are companions. Together, they will carry you into a future stronger than your past.
